SBES Applicants: Clarification on Submission of Materials

Important Announcement - Please Note the Following:

  • The VT Graduate School now requires that official transcript(s) be scanned and attached to the online application instead of mailing in paper copies
  • The SBES website has the Graduate School’s Transcript Upload directions here: http://www.sbes.vt.edu/app_chklist.php#trans, and the department is able to retrieve the scans.  Therefore, please do NOT mail any transcripts unless you receive a request to do so.
  • The Virginia Tech Graduate School’s online application also allows for attaching a Resume and a Statement of Purpose which are required by SBES.  By attaching them, you do not have to mail them in.

TEST SCORES:

SBES also requires photocopies of GRE and TOEFL score reports, however, there is no place for these to be attached to the application.  ETS sends electronic scores directly to the VT Graduate School, but NOT to the departments. Therefore we must receive scans or photocopies.
You may send your test scores to us in one of three ways:

  • by scan as an email attachment to tsentell@vt.edu
  • by sending photocopies by postal mail to the SBES address:
  • Graduate Admissions: Attn: Tess Sentelle
School of Biomedical Engineering & Sciences
    ICTAS Building, Stanger Street (0298)
Virginia Tech Campus Blacksburg, VA 24061

  • by including a scan of your GRE/TOEFL scores as the last page of your resume which will be scanned and uploaded with the application.  NOTE: If you do this, you MUST send a ‘heads-up’ email to tsentell@vt.edu  – otherwise we won’t know that the score report is contained in the ‘resume’ file upload.
