Dr. Clay Gabler (SBES, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering) is Co-Editor-in-Chief, along with John Hinch (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), and John Steiner (KEVA Engineering) of the recently published Event Data Recorders: A Decade of Innovation (Society of Automotive Engineering). This research volume provides the first comprehensive examination of emerging event data recorder (EDR) technology for cars, light trucks, and heavy vehicles. Event data recorders, sometimes compared to the black boxes in aircraft, are providing fundamental new insights into vehicle crashes and their injury consequences. |

Ge Wang, Ph.D.,and researchers at Virgina Tech have used bioluminescence tomography (BLT) to identify adrenal tumors in living mice, and brought BLT imaging a step closer to potential use in preclinical drug and therapy trials. Their findings are summarized in the linked article posted with permission of RSNA News. Professor Wang is an endowed engineering professor and director of the newly established Biomedical Imaging Division at the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering & Sciences in Blacksburg, Va. Dr. Wang was instrumental in inventing the BLT process in 2002 while on faculty at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. |
